Biography
Who is Poetic Lace?
Poetic Lace, born Le’Serone Smith, came into this world February 8, 1988 in Compton California. He, his mother Monika Logan (now Monika Clary, a play and film writer), and younger brother Johnny Smith, moved to Jacksonville Florida shortly after the murder of his father, Trennis “Pretty P.T” Smith Woodman, nephew of the late Johnny “Guitar” Watson. Trennis “Pretty P.T” Smith Woodman was a young rap artist and producer on the rise, touring around the world under the tutelage of the legendary Grammy Award winner, Johnny “Guitar” Watson. In Jacksonville, Le’Serone, his mother and brother moved in with his adopted grandparents, Ann and Andrew Logan. Ann Logan was a licensed cosmetologist who owned her own beauty salon for over 25 years, and a very active civil servant who oversaw many electoral proceedings and political issues. Her husband, Andrew Logan, was an ordained minister who fought in World War II and marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In honor of all of his hard work, a housing development was erected in his name, “The Logan Plaza”, which is located in Compton, California. Both were very active members in the body of Christ, constantly exalting Jesus as Lord. Up until their deaths, Le’Serone was one of their primary care providers. Insulin shots for diabetes, changing diapers, preparing food, constant hospital trips are just a few of the task Le’Serone had to work on a daily basis. He spent his childhood days caring for his grandparents, playing Pop Warner football for North Jax, hanging out with friends, and going to school. Le’Serone was a hard worker in school; always making the honor roll, and a fierce competitor on the football field. During one season, Le’Serone badly fractured his wrist in the season opener. Not wanting to sit out nor let his team down, Le’Serone asked his coaches to hide his casted wrist with a long-sleeved glove and padding so the referees couldn’t keep him off the field. Le’Serone had an all-star season for the team playing multiple positions on both offense and defense, winning the Iron Man award that season.
At the age of seven, after telling his grandfather that he needed to be baptized and saved through Jesus Christ, Le’Serone was immediately baptized by his grandfather in their bathtub. Though Le’Serone gave his life to God, the world around him did not change. He grew up with very few clothes and shoes, the living conditions were rough, and he witnessed his close friend molest his other close friend. Though his mother worked several jobs to provide for the family, Le’Serone still felt like death would be a better way out. Le’Serone tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself with a knife, but the sight of his little brother prevented him from completing the penetration. At eight years old Le’Serone’s grandfather asked him a question that forever changed his life. In reference to Acts 19 concerning the sons of Sceva, Rev. Logan asked his grandson Le’Serone, “do demons know your name”? After telling Le’Serone the story according to scripture, Rev. Logan than stated, “make sure demons know your name”. This conversation revolutionized Le’Serone’s thinking forever. In later years, Le’Serone became a member at Bethel Baptist Institutional Church, home of Bishop Rudolph McKissick Sr. and Bishop Rudolph McKissick Jr. In the eighth grade, Le’Serone Smith who was doing very well in football, decided to join his friends in the basketball arena. He practiced very hard but he was cut from the Highlands Middle School’s basketball team at his first tryouts. This caused him to vow that “things will be different from here on out”. AND THAT THEY DID. In high school, Le’Serone acquired entrepreneurial skills to earn money for clothes, played on both the junior varsity and varsity basketball teams for Samuel W. Wolfson High School and Robert E. Lee High School, traveled through most of the southern region of the United States while playing A.A.U, Y.O.B.A, and U.S.S.S.A basketball for “All For One, One For All” under the tutelage and mentorship of coach John Woodbury, earned various awards in both sports and academics, mentoring kids, volunteering to feed the homeless frequently, voted having the Best Smile among his high school peers and much more.
After graduating high school in May 2006, Le’Serone earned a partial scholarship to Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. Upon his arrival, he soon discovered, in order for him to continue his basketball career at CSU, he would have to cut his locks. After pondering over the matter, he decided that he will not lose his identity for any “human”. So Le’Serone left CSU and moved back to Jacksonville, Florida to work at the Coach Purse Distribution Center and train for basketball until he could earn a basketball scholarship to another school. After being rejected by several colleges, Le’Serone finally earned an opportunity to play for Dean College, a community college in Franklin Massachusetts. Three days before it was time to leave for school, tragedy struck again. Le’Serone’s car was stolen, involved in a hit and run accident that nearly killed an unsuspecting bike rider, and wound up totaling another vehicle. The criminal escaped the scene before the police could arrive, leaving Le’Serone, who was relaxing at home at the time, to take the blame. Le’Serone was accused of attempted murder, reckless endangerment, fleeing the scene of an accident, and drug trafficking by the police officers who Le’Serone called after being notified by his brother that his car was stolen. After searching Le’Serone’s house and finding no drugs but seeing jerseys, college letters, and bible scriptures on the walls, the police officers were convicted by the Holy Spirit. The police officers who placed Le’Serone in the back of their car in handcuffs released him saying, “I never met a black man who was trying to do good with his life”. Charges weren’t filed against Le’Serone, but he still found himself fighting against two law suits. Immediately after the incident, Le’Serone lost his opportunity to Dean College. By the grace of God, an anonymous attorney secretly settled the fees outside of court, leaving Le’Serone to only pay the police impound fees. During this stressful time, Le’Serone met his long-time best friend, Leezola Coates. She was a beacon of light during the darkest of nights according to Le’Serone. Needing to regroup, he then moved to Upper Marlboro Maryland to live with his now stepdad Keith Clary’s sister and husband, La Vida and Eric Mason. There he trained for basketball and worked at Home Depot.
After working hard for six months, Le’Serone earned an opportunity to play basketball for Daytona State College, a community college in Daytona Beach Florida. After meeting Le’Serone in person and evaluating him over the course of several weeks, Coach Anthony Andre concluded that Le’Serone was too small and could not play on his team. Le’Serone, who had already been through a lot, did not accept Coach Andre’s verdict and demanded for the opportunity to prove him wrong. Le’Serone began to outwork every player on the team, on and off the court. Getting in the gym before everyone and leaving the gym later than everyone became a consistent routine. The results of his hard work weren’t only Coach Andre changing his verdict, Le’Serone also earned a full basketball scholarship along with several academic scholarships due to his outstanding GPA. Though Le’Serone persevered through many obstacles to get to where he wanted to be, trials, tribulations, and the pressures of life did not let up. In the midst of pursing his A.A in Business Management and continuing his basketball career, Le’Serone tore his meniscus disk during the preseason, having to get surgery. In the same time frame, Le’Serone’s grandfather passed away, and he was hit by car; having to take the officer to court for mistreating him. To make matters worse, Le’Serone was also stocked by a young man who struggled with his sexuality. This young man’s obsession nearly caused Le’Serone to take self-defense precautions in his own hands. None of this stopped Le’Serone from reaching his goals! Le’Serone made the All Mid-Florida Conference Academic Team, he won the Men’s Basketball Most Improved Award, and graduated with honors earning his Associates Degree in Business Management. After graduating, Le’Serone went back into training to prepare to continue his basketball career at a university. In the midst of training, he tore his tibia tendon; causing him to sit out of school for another year. Being unable to walk for several months, Le’Serone grew extremely closer to God. This new-found relationship led him to reading the entire bible, write four composition books of poetry, and begin a life sexual abstinence until marriage.
After fully recovering from his injury, Le’Serone met with an old friend from high school who encouraged him to accept a position as an A&R Manager at a local record label due his leadership qualities. Le’Serone traveled the city of Jacksonville looking for talent at different clubs. When Le’Serone noticed that all of the artist the label was recruiting had music that was filled with lyrics that were damaging the minds of people, he began to challenge both the artist he met and the label’s owner on their perceptions of right and wrong. Le’Serone spent weeks studying and presenting ways to grow the business and attack the music industry. After it became clear to Le’Serone that the label’s owner lacked passion to be successful, and had a secret life, Le’Serone left the label and went back to training to play college basketball.
During that summer of 2010, Le’Serone took a recruitment visit to Fort Valley State University; for he was deciding which school he would be attending and playing for in the upcoming school year. To Le’Serone’s surprise, the visit went horrible! There were many unforeseen interruptions. While in the restroom, the Holy Spirit spoke to him saying, “Your season of basketball is over”. Thinking it was just nervous thoughts, Le’Serone walked out of the bathroom to discover a spokesman from the NCAA had come to shut the visit down due to mismanagement of paper work from the coach’s negligence. Blown away by the timing, Le’Serone traveled back to Jacksonville asking the Lord, “Where are we going”. After several days of hearing nothing, the Lord responded, “Miami”. After a few more days, Le’Serone RANDOMLY received an acceptance letter from Florida International University. With very little struggle, Le’Serone quit basketball and decided to go to Florida International University to continue his education. There he majored in Business Management and minored in Psychology.
In August 2010 before it was time to move to Miami FL, Le’Serone moved back to Daytona Beach for a few weeks to help his mentee get adjusted to college life and living on his own. Three days before leaving for school, Le’Serone received a phone call from his potential roommate saying he didn’t have any money to put in towards their housing. Feeling very frustrated and disappointed, Le’Serone knew that he still needed to go to Miami; for he could not deny that he heard the Lord’s voice. Sticking to the plan, Le’Serone moved to Miami in faith and wound up homeless. During his stint of homelessness, he stayed at the Brunson family house, slept in his car, became very ill with hives over his entire body in which doctors could find no cure, his bank account was “mysteriously” emptied out, and rats and mold damaged all of his clothes. These tribulations caused Le’Serone to see “the bigger picture”. He met people of all ethnic backgrounds from different classes of life with all types of achievements that were in very bad places in life. This made him ask himself, “what’s the difference between them and I”? The answer was God! Le’Serone began to seek God more, and his desire to help people began to grow larger. Shortly afterwards, God blessed him with an apartment in North Miami Beach.
When Le’Serone became a little more stable, he began to work towards leaving an impact in Miami. He joined B.S.U (Black Student Union), S.P.E.A.K (Students Poets Eloquently Articulating Knowledge) and Christians Crusaders on Campus. Oddly enough, none these organizations could fill the void of purpose Le’Serone felt he was lacking. Then on one particular night while he was on the phone with a friend, the Holy Spirit whispered to both of them, “Poetic Lace”. Though this was an awesome supernatural experience he was having with his friend, Le’Serone immediately knew what it meant, and wasn’t excited about what was required out of him next. Over the course of a few weeks, Le’Serone unconsciously studied the bible more and studied the art of rapping and creating songs. After much prayer and debate, during finals week Le’Serone dropped out of school and moved to Tampa, Florida to live with childhood friend, Jason Sherman, to focus on this “Poetic Lace” assignment.
On December 23, 2010, the death date of Le’Serone’s dad Trennis “Pretty P.T” Smith Woodman, Le’Serone stepped into a music recording studio and recorded for the first time. This gave him confirmation to move back to Jacksonville Florida to build a team and began his new mission. Poetic Lace Productions, the vision of a living company that will be used to help people of all colors, ages, and backgrounds through music, film, fashion, dance, and art through Christ Jesus was conceived. On May 5, 2011 Poetic Lace was born! Poetic Lace connected with old friend T.J The Beatman for instrumental production, and wrote and recorded his first single, Broken Wings featuring Nova from his demo project The New Beginning, which was sponsored by La Vida Clary Mason and her company Mijoi and Associates, LLC. Shortly after production was finished, Poetic Lace moved to Maryland to live with his sponsor to further his calling. On August 30, 2011, The New Beginning released and interviews and articles shortly followed afterwards. After a few months, the Holy Spirit led Poetic Lace to move back to Jacksonville Florida to get a deeper understanding of God. On October 14, 2011, Poetic Lace was anointed as a prophet at Restoration at Life Changing Ministries by Pastor Ervin Jones III. In this time period, Poetic Lace’s bible studies shot up to a new level.
On March 23, 2012, Poetic Lace released his debut album When Silence Falls. Sadly, in the midst of the album’s release, Poetic Lace’s little brother was arrested for several felonies; facing a life sentence in prison. Though this was another painful blow, Poetic Lace pushed harder for the Lord Jesus. The release of the album led to Poetic Lace making guest appearances in the independent films Running and Trap Livin. Poetic Lace also became the founder and co-host of Spiritual Warfare Prayer, a conference prayer line that was opened to everyone across the world. God established Poetic Lace more and more as time grew from invites to minister and perform all the way to being the featured artist on many websites and blogs. On June 13, 2012, Poetic Lace became the new co-host on The D-Hour Radio Network’s online radio show, The Covenant Café. On July 22, 2012, Poetic Lace became a member of Pastor Ervin Jones III’s church Restoration at Life Changing Ministries, and Le’Serone’s longtime friend Leezola Coats became his girlfriend. Shortly after this big move, Poetic Lace was announced to be on Coast2Coast Indie Top 50 Mixtape, number 14 on Modern Beats’ September 2012 Top 20 Independent Artist, number 7 on Hit Talk’s January 2013 Top 20 Independent Artist and other accolades for his hard work. Poetic Lace went on to release an online series called “Heart of The Streets”, where he interviewed homeless and misfortunate people to make a change in our communities. Music videos for Broken Wings, The Way Out, Can We Get Away, Day After Day, Diamonds On My Neck, and Better Days soon followed in which he directed and edited. On February 6, 2013 it was revealed that Poetic Lace is included in the future historic photo, A Great Day In LaVilla. This photo includes some of the most prestigious artist, poets and writers in the North Florida area. On February 19, 2013 Poetic Lace partnered up with the charity known as Ox Fam to help raise money. Fifty percent of his Reverbnation music sales went to the charity to help them with their fight against poverty.
On March 22, 2013, almost a year after the release of When Silence Falls, Poetic Lace was featured in Australia’s very own Hip Hop Rap Sheet. Now that he was stepping into an international arena, Poetic Lace knew it was time to expand his brand and ministry into new territories. On April 28, 2013 it was announced that Poetic Lace was casted to be in the stage play, He Wants It All, directed by his mother, Monika Clary, to play the role of Sarge, the plays lead villain. Poetic Lace learned the art of acting to work by stepping outside of himself to play this role. In the midst of all the hard work, Poetic Lace’s brother Johnny Smith’s case had finally ended, resulting into charges being dropped to trespassing and crediting him time spent. Sadly, the fight did not end there. Johnny was transferred to the Nassau County jail to fight another case for a crime that allegedly took place four years ago. This incident bothered Poetic Lace but didn’t cause him to give up on the mission. After Le’Serone’s two-year anniversary as Poetic Lace (May 5, 2013), it was announced that Poetic Lace would be performing at the 5th Annual Rhythm of Gospel Awards on July 26, 2013. Being invited to this prestigious affair didn’t cause him to lighten up one bit. On July 21, 2013 Poetic Lace won the OMN Finale; making him the 2013 Open Mic Night Champion. This led to him joining the God Belongs In My City Summer 2013 Tour and God Belongs In My City Prayer Walk Concert. In the midst of all of this outward success, Poetic Lace began working on a new single titled Soul Therapy featuring Transparent and Worshippers Victorious. Being inspired by the young people he mentored, it was brought to his attention that people need spiritual healing from pain and wounds that come from a rough past and/or a deprived present. These soon to be scars will turn into a major hindrance to one having a prosperous future. Soul Therapy isn’t just a powerful song, it’s a tool to bring positive change to God’s children. Ironically, Poetic Lace had to face one of his mentee’s scars during the production of Soul Therapy. In the late July/early August 2013, Poetic Lace caught one of the young men he mentored prostituting himself with other men. Though this was very devastating, Poetic rose above the controversy by staying focused on God, heeding wise counsel from his mentor, mom, and pastor, and by loving the young man as a child of God. Though this unexpected blow from life hit him, Poetic Lace pressed through by connecting with the legendary Paul Lapinski to engineer Soul Therapy. Now having a complete song, Poetic Lace went into deep prayer concerning what his next step should be. The Lord led Poetic Lace to Will Thomas, the owner of Space Cherry Films, in late August 2013. Poetic Lace faithfully served Will Thomas on many video shoots and was involved in the editing process of some Christian Hip Hop’s biggest videos. While Poetic Lace was under his wings, Will Thomas taught Poetic Lace about filming, shooting music videos, the art of coloring videos, and his experience with the Gospel in the music industry. Poetic Lace’s eyes were opened to new areas in faith and a route to take in the music industry. In midst of that, Will Thomas shot the music video for Poetic Lace’s Soul Therapy.
On September 12, 2013, Poetic Lace’s brother Johnny Smith got sentenced to do two years in prison. Though this was painful, Poetic used this as motivation. On September 28, 2013, Poetic Lace performed at the God Belongs In City Prayer Walk Concert, praying for thousands of people. This experience increased his desire to encourage people to have a deeper and more intimate relationship with God, and it led him to a bigger platform. On October 22, 2013, Poetic Lace released the song and music video for Soul Therapy featuring Transparent and Worshippers Victorious. Through the testimonies of this song, the Lord showed him that it’s too common that we label people according to their past, and that we allow wounds and bitterness in our souls to hold us back from a prosperous future. Sharing this message through Soul Therapy’s official music video, led to more lives being changed and more doors being opened. In the months of November and December of 2013, Poetic Lace was featured in Emurge Magazine, casted to be a lead actor in the original stage play The Final Decision, written by James Web, he was interviewed on many radio stations, making many top ten music list, and to close out the year, Poetic Lace was nominated for The Prayze Factor People’s Choice Award in the category of Holy Hip-Hop Artist of year.
On February 8, 2014, Poetic Lace turned 26 years old. His desire to please God and grow in his career had reached a very high level. By February 14, 2014, Soul Therapy had remained on Jamsterdam’s Top 10 list since December 8, 2013 (Poetic Lace was the first Gospel artist to do this on the Jamsterdam network). On March 1, 2014, Poetic Lace was casted to play the role of Jesus in the stage play He’s The Best I’ve Ever Seen. Poetic Lace said that this role caused him to seek God on a more personal level; it challenged his way of thinking and the way he worshipped God, and it bettered him as an all-around artist. This soon led to Soul Therapy’s official music video debuting nationwide on the Shine TV network in New Zealand on April 21, 2014. With doors continuing to open and the Gospel reaching new territories, Le’Serone remained extremely focused going into his 3-year anniversary as Poetic Lace on May 5, 2014. Soul Therapy’s official music video remained on several network’s top 5 music videos list for weeks. With so much momentum going, it was certain to many that Poetic Lace was heading to the top. On July 19, 2014 Poetic Lace partnered with C&C Music Group for management and promotion for a new single. This record label betrayed Poetic Lace by stealing his money and not performing their end of the bargain. Though this was a heart-breaking blow, Poetic Lace did not allow this to stop him. On July 29, 2014 Poetic Lace released a new single and music video titled Clap It Up. The action-packed video features Human Video super stars United Untied (made up of Michael Rhoden, Bethany Rhoden, Brandon Rhoden, and Jonathan Kirkland). Clap It Up united several different cultures and ethnicities. Being tired of seeing many of his peers compromising and leaving the name of Jesus for fame, Poetic Lace decided to be even bolder with his love for Jesus in his lyrics. Though being met with racial backlash, Clap It Up still made its way into tv and radio rotations. Meanwhile, Soul Therapy was triumphing greatly on the television screen. For an entire year, Poetic Lace’s Soul Therapy remained in Music 4 U’s Top 5 Hotlist on the CW17 Bounce TV Network. This accomplishment had never been done by a Gospel artist before. All of this success led C&C Music Group to contact Poetic Lace, attempting to take credit for what God was doing. This angered Poetic Lace, motivating him to legally have the contract terminated; which also forfeited any moneys that was due to him. Feeling vulnerable and penniless, Poetic Lace was now uncertain on what his next step should be. Though this may seem like a tragic time, the situation opened the door for Le’Serone to personally meet Yahweh Yireh (Jehovah Jireh), El Shaddai, Yahweh Nissi (Jehovah Nissi), and Yahweh Shammah (Jehovah Shammah), and trademark Poetic Lace.
On December 31, 2014, Poetic Lace added being a film maker to the list of talents. Earlier that day, Poetic Lace sold all of his video equipment to have money to give to God that night at his church’s New Year’s Eve service. Poetic Lace had faith that God would reward his sacrifice with better equipment. Without fail, in January 2015 God touched the heart of close friend Eric Hurd Jr. to invest in Poetic Lace, purchasing him a new camera. By March 25, 2015 Poetic Lace was directing and producing music videos for other artist, and was currently in production for his unreleased single, Unconcealed. God began to take Poetic Lace into new areas of the entertainment industry to make his ministry more impactful. On April 7, 2015, Poetic Lace partnered with Rep Intelligence Clothing Company becoming their model, showcasing the clothing line. “Rep Intelligence is a brand that was built to oppose the ignorant stereotypes placed on our youth by society”. This move further solidified Poetic Lace’s decision to reveal his life story through visuals and lyrics in his new single Unconcealed, which debuted on May 5, 2015; ironically releasing on the same day as Le’Serone’s 4-year anniversary as Poetic Lace. Unconcealed is based on the true story according to Poetic Lace’s life. It’s the first installment of Poetic Lace's "Broken Crayon" series; in which encourages viewers and listeners that no matter how broken they are, God can still use them successfully. Yes, broken crayons still color! On May 6, 2015 the day after Unconcealed’s release, Poetic Lace began a radio show tour. Poetic Lace was featured on 5 radio shows in 7 days across the USA to share his story.
On May 14, 2015 Poetic Lace had a life changing experience in Tennessee. Being recruited by The Extreme Tour to travel the world to share the gospel through music, Poetic Lace went to Nashville to meet with the organization and other recruits. While there, Poetic Lace and the other recruits went through a series of classes and seminars in which business and ministerial lessons were being taught to them. During one of the evangelistic field trips, Poetic Lace encountered a man who was drunk. Little did Poetic Lace know, God was going to use him to save his life. Through the course of the night, Poetic Lace had to protect this man from getting hit by cars, being beat up by people he angered, robbed by muggers, clean vomit off of him, and escort him to his hotel safely. This experience, along with the musical works done in the communities, truly showed Poetic Lace an awesome side of God’s love. Being stirred up and optimistic, Poetic Lace went back to Jacksonville on a mission. On July 18 2015, Poetic Lace joined the “Love Thy Neighbor As Thyself” tour with Carl Troutman aka DJ “C”. This tour was designed to go into neglected communities and give them free food, free clothes, live performances, and the Word of God. Many people gave their lives to Jesus. Within this timeframe, Poetic Lace’s Unconcealed debuted and remained on several top 10 song’s list. Along with Clap It Up, the music videos debuted on Roku and All Nations TV.
By this time in Poetic Lace’s young career, he was no stranger to television. On July 25, 2015 Poetic Lace became the special guest host on the iPrayze Gospel Television Show on the Living Witness TV Network. This hosting position gave him opportunity to pour wisdom into young artist and minister to people worldwide. One of Poetic Lace’s favorite accomplishments occurred August 27, 2015 when he became 6 years abstinent from sex. This commitment testifies to people of all ages that “you can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens you”. On November 7, 2015 Poetic Lace entered into production as the director of photography and camera operator for the short film The Sacred Desire, directed by James Webb. This short film exposed Poetic Lace to another level of working with professional actors. With more experience under his belt and a lot to look forward to, on December 20, 2015 Poetic Lace proposed to his longtime best friend Leezola Coats. She of coursed said “yes”! This set the stage for Poetic Lace’s January 5, 2016 release, Man Down. Man Down was the second installment of Poetic Lace's Broken Crayon series. It’s based on the true story of Cain and Abel. This video was created to expose and arrest the spirit of Cain that has been attacking our communities. The release of Poetic Lace’s 4th single, Man Down, led to the opening of more doors. Man Down was featured on City Takers’ Street Heat Show, it was featured in Boss Code Magazine, and it peaked at number 2 on the Christian Hip-Hop Music Weekly Top 50 Chart and Video Count Down. On February 26, 2016 Poetic Lace performed in his third stage play, Yew vs Satan directed by Monika Clary, as the role of Jesus. With much hard work going on behind scenes, on March 14, 2016 Poetic Lace won The Wedding Music Video of the Year Award for directing Dwayne Coley’s This Wedding, and he won The Creative Artist of the Year Award at the 2nd Annual Extraordinary People Award Show.
After having a blazing start to the 2016 year, Poetic Lace’s longtime friend and quiet investor, Eric Hurd Jr, contacted him stating it was time for Poetic Lace to upgrade his video quality. Eric invested more money into Poetic Lace’s video equipment to give him more strength in the film industry. After directing and producing more music videos and films, Poetic Lace went into a small hiatus from the music and film business to prepare for his wedding on June 18, 2016. Little did he know, June 18th would be a day no one would ever forget. Le’Serone and Leezola’s wedding day was filled with both catastrophes and miracles. “Truly, we’ve witnessed the hand of God”, said one of the wedding guests. Outside of the individual scares Le’Serone and Leezola were facing, the day started off with the workers setting up the décor for the wedding ceremony (which was located on the beach) and being bombarded by coast guards. The coast guards forced everyone off the beach because of the approaching thunder storms. In a panic, the first notion for everyone was to cancel the wedding; but Le’Serone had other plans. When he arrived to the location, Le’Serone obeyed the voice of God and gave instructions on their next steps. First, he had everyone to stop and pray. Then, he instructed the workers to set up the equipment and décor at the park in front of the beach. “Are yall ready to see the glory of the LORD”, asked Le’Serone. “God, I asked that You please send a gust of wind to come push these heavy rain clouds from over us”, he stated. Immediately a gust of wind came and began to push the clouds away. It was amazing! A miracle began to take place before their very eyes! As people looked in amazement, a spirit of excitement came upon them and the workers began to get to work. After everything was set up, and the ceremony was being protected from rain, police officers began to pull up to the location bearing bad news. The police officers were stating that the wedding had to be canceled because it was not permitted to be in the new location. The Spirit of the LORD then granted favor to Le’Serone as he spoke with the police officers. The officers allowed the wedding to go on. A few minutes later, Mayor Charlie Latham came to the ceremony site to congratulate Le’Serone and send his condolences for having such a rough day. Feeling like the worst was now over, Le’Serone was now ready to get married. A few minutes later, Le’Serone received a call from Leezola stating that her mom and sister were involved in a car accident. Leezola was on the phone crying and stating that the wedding needed to be canceled. Not allowing defeat to be an option, Le’Serone and recording artist Uncle Reece got in the car to pick Leezola up. After speaking with her in person, God gave them both the strength to get married. Minutes later the ceremony began and Le’Serone and Leezola got married. The reception afterwards also went horrible but the testimony gives glory to God.
Poetic Lace now being married, knew it was time to grow to a higher level. On August 25, 2016 Poetic Lace announced his new United States Community Tour. This tour consisted of him partnering with Carl Troutman aka DJ “C”, in which they did free concerts in all types of communities across the United States providing free food, giveaways, a bounce house, live performances, and most importantly, the Word of God. This tour ran from August to December 2016. The very next day on August 26, 2016 Poetic Lace was casted to be in the new version of the stage play The Final Decision, directed by James Webb III. With so much attention on him, Poetic Lace was encouraged by his close friend and producer T.J Da Beatman to share his intimate experiences with God during a live interview. On September 1, 2016 Poetic Lace released his very dynamic interview, Encounters With God, which elaborated on his meeting with Yahweh Yireh (Jehovah Jireh), El Shaddai, Yahweh Nissi (Jehovah Nissi), and Yahweh Shammah (Jehovah Shammah). This interview transformed the minds of thousands of people; causing them to pursue Jesus in a more intimate way.
The release of Poetic Lace’s Encounters With God set the stage for Poetic Lace to release a dynamic poetry video titled Hope on November 7, 2016. The Hope video vocally shares Poetic Lace’s confidence in the unconquerable God while sharing stunning visuals that give a glimpse of Poetic Lace’s life. With the Hope video catching momentum, Poetic Lace was set to headline his first arena revival concert. On November 12, 2016 Poetic Lace headlined the Jesup 4 Jesus Youth Rally presented by FreeHart Life Recovery Center in Screven, Georgia. This event was deemed “absolutely amazing”! Poetic Lace put on an awesome show, prayed for many people, healed people in Jesus name, deliverance took place, and he flowed in the prophetic, giving both Logos and Rhema Word to God’s people. This powerful experience elevated Poetic Lace’s expectations for the path of his career and ministry. On December 20, 2016 Poetic Lace released his second poetry video titled Real Love featuring OSHA. The Real Love video glorifies God through the amazing institution of marriage. The visuals highlight the beautiful ups and downs of traveling through life with your God given spouse. The stunning visuals display the true value of love. All of this hard work resulted in a miraculous surprise. On December 31, 2016 God bless Poetic Lace with a new sports car. Poetic Lace continued to watch the impossible become possible as he diligently served Yeshua (Jesus).
On January 21, 2017 Poetic Lace partnered with Bethany Rhoden and made a surprise visit to United Christian Academy in Macclenny Florida to recruit talented students to be in his new production. It was very tough for Poetic Lace to narrow down which actors would be a part of the production, but after hearing certain individuals’ powerful testimonies of surviving death, it became very clear on how important the film was and who should be in it. Poetic Lace appointed Bethany Rhoden as the head writer and director of photography while he held the positions of executive producer and head director. The production for this new film titled The Disposition later released September 12, 2018.
With another major statement to make, on February 13, 2017 Poetic Lace released his third poetry video titled Who Do You Think You Are featuring Che’Don. As the title implies, this video challenged viewers to ask themselves “who do I think I am”. It’s too often that people blame society and their environments for their lack of success. The truth is, it’s our own mental perspective and the posture of our hearts towards God that determines true success. The world did not, and cannot, give us joy; therefore, it truly does not have the power to take joy from us. Who Do You Think You Are quickly became another one of Poetic Lace’s dynamic videos that reshaped the thinking of thousands of people. Glorifying God and challenging people to come out of sin has been the consistent goal in Poetic Lace’s career. At this point, Poetic Lace had directed and produced over 27 films and music videos for different artist on top of his personal projects, but interesting enough, Poetic Lace still felt he wasn’t doing enough and that something was missing. Later on, in February 2017, Poetic Lace was told by his new Kingdom Business manager, Antoinette Lovely, that God was calling him to be the “king of the city”. This sounded very far fetch to him but those words would not leave him alone. Over the next several months, Poetic Lace consecrated himself to hear God clearer. The Lord Jesus began to give Poetic Lace visions, lyrics, and specific instructions concerning moves to make. In this sabbatical, Poetic Lace yoked himself to very few concerts and film projects. Learning how to walk out his new position correctly was priority.
On August 25, 2017 Poetic Lace released his new EP titled King of The City. According to Revelation 1:6, Jesus has made us kings and priest. There is an authority in Christ Jesus that we must walk in, and a standard that we must uphold. This project alerted people that it is time to be bold in being obedient to the Word of God. King of The City is Poetic Lace’s way of letting people with influence know that since they do not want to uphold the Standard of God and lead God’s people with righteousness, he himself will embrace that mantle. This seven-track poetic musical features instrumental production from T.J The Beatman and Nova, and vocal features from Khaleel Kellogg and Nova. Le’Serone “Poetic Lace” Smith is the executive producer of this amazing EP. After releasing such a bold statement, Poetic Lace began to lose friends, and become a type of black sheep. But even in warfare, the glory of God continued to shine brighter and brighter through Poetic Lace, the King of The City. On September 8, 2017 the official music video for King of The City released worldwide. This video displayed amazing visuals of Poetic Lace and his beautiful wife, Leezola Smith, walking in their authorities as king and queen. This video has motivated thousands of people to know that God’s way still works. King of The City wound up going into rotation on BET Soul and within a few weeks of its release, King of The City was nominated for Best Hip-Hop Video at The Eddy awards on September 30, 2017. Continuing to break barriers and inspire many people, King of The City earned another nomination. On October 17, 2017 King of The City was nominated for Independent Music Video of the Year at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards. These incredible achievements have catapulted Poetic Lace into a lane of his own as he is aggressively proclaiming God’s Word.
On February 8, 2018, Le’Serone’s 30th birthday, he and his wife took a trip to Upper Marlboro Maryland to shoot the poetry video for The King’s Statement. While up there, they met with the owner of Mijoi and Associates, La Vida Clary Mason, and her husband Eric Mason. The conversation they had revolutionized Le’Serone and Leezola’s thinking. La Vida and Eric Mason challenged Le’Serone to expand Poetic Lace as a film maker. They expressed how he could be the best in the industry, and how he should consider positioning himself. Pondering on the wisdom that was shared with him from his aunt and uncle, and thinking about the question he heard the Lord ask him a few months back (God asked him would he be willing to damage his credit to glorify God), Le’Serone knew the time was approaching for another huge sacrifice. After Poetic Lace’s dynamic performance at The Eddy Awards on February 24, 2018 he and his wife went into counsel with the Lord on how they should honor Him with their business. On February 27, 2018 Poetic Lace maxed out all of his credit cards and invested every penny he had into purchasing new equipment and software for music and video production. This was a very risky move considering Poetic Lace didn’t have any gigs or clients lined up, but in due time it proved to be one of the best moves he could have made. On top of expanding the business with new powerful tools, on March 19, 2018 Poetic Lace signed RIZM, Ronald Lang II, as his first artist under the management branch of Poetic Lace. Le’Serone’s goal is not only to tell people how to live right and be successful in God, but to also help and show people how to live right and be successful in God.
With evident growth came more opportunities; but with more opportunities came more conflict. On April 5, 2018, Poetic Lace was called into a private meeting with a scholar to be told why they were canceling Poetic Lace’s concert at their institution. The problem wasn’t that Poetic Lace believed in God, it was that he believes God talks to him. Though the meeting wasn’t hostile and ended on good terms, Poetic Lace became furious with the system of traditional religion. Poetic Lace was ready to declare war on men’s doctrine and “legal sin”. On April 8, 2018 the YKF (Yahweh’s Kingdom Forever) movement was born. Poetic Lace knew that when people said “god” they weren’t all talking about the Most High God, Yahweh. YKF drew a distinct line between the real and the fake, making it very clear there was a difference. Knowing that he would need more soldiers to go to war with him for YKF, Poetic Lace decided become the servant he needed for someone else; believing that God would honor this sacrifice and add a warrior to his movement. On April 13, 2018 Poetic Lace went on the road with Uncle Reece to serve him at his event. To Le’Serone’s surprise, an unexpected blessing would arise from his sacrifice. On April 15, 2018 the same day as Poetic Lace’s grandfather Andrew Logan birthday, Uncle Reece’s father-in-law gave Poetic Lace an original copy of his late uncle Johnny “Guitar” Watson’s CD. This gesture touched Poetic Lace’s heart, causing him and his wife to plan a trip to California to learn about his dad’s side of the family. On May 22, 2018 YKF had become a massive fire, burning the core of the Smith family. Leezola Smith denounced her letters of affiliation with her sorority. After discovering that the sorority had rituals and traditions in place that were contrary and forbidden by the Bible, she knew she couldn’t truly honor God by staying in connection with them. Though Leezola was met with much backlash and rejection, this inspired Le’Serone to find more areas in his life that God should have total control over. On June 26, 2018 Poetic Lace removed all of his videos from Vevo, and started a new YouTube channel. A very unpopular and distasteful move to some, Poetic Lace knew the Lord was challenging him to take full control over the content God had given him. He should have the final say so of when and what content could be released by his brand, not another company.
On July 18, 2018 Le’Serone and Leezola Smith took a trip to Los Angeles California to meet Le’Serone’s aunt and cousins on his dad’s side for the first time. This emotional trip involved seeing where Le’Serons’s dad, Trennis “Pretty P.T.” Smith Woodman, was shot, died, and laid to rest at, Le’Serone’s mother’s old schools and grandparent’s house in Compton California, and learning about his Californian roots. Finally receiving the love his father had for him, on July 23, 2018 Poetic Lace was hit with the revelation that his dad’s music should live on. As Poetic Lace was navigating through these new-found emotions and creative insight, confirmation on the next steps came thundering at the Smith family’s door. On July 26, 2018 while Le’Serone and Leezola were celebrating their close friend Bethany Rhoden’s birthday, a prophet pulled them to the side and began to tell them everything that was going on in their lives that no one but God knew. Among mentioning new music, a new house, and insight on some current issues, this message was so powerful, accurate, and from God that Le’Serone and Leezola were impowered and ready to weather the storms that were ahead.
On August 5, 2018 Poetic Lace released a new web series titled The Seven Day Theory. This project gave seven days of intimate behind the scenes stories of Poetic Lace’s award-winning productions, and the ups and downs that came with them. The Seven Day Theory opened the door for the re-releasing of Poetic Lace’s music and poetry videos on his new YouTube channel. Working behind the scenes, on August 9, 2018 Poetic Lace found his dad’s lost music on cassette tapes. Astonished by revelation of “his dad’s music living on” coming to past, Poetic Lace witnessed another miracle of seeing the missing music appear on the laptop. Knowing that God was doing something new, on August 10, 2018 Poetic Lace had a very strong desire to find footage of his dad. Not sure where to look and knowing that his dad didn’t have any public projects, Poetic Lace was very confident that God was holding his hand. Listening to God’s voice, Poetic Lace found a video of his dad riding on a boat with his uncle Johnny “Guitar” Watson in Germany. This was mind-blowing! Feeling very inspired, he then found a clip of his dad walking on stage with his uncle. Later on, Le’Serone got in touch with his dad’s mother and found footage of Trennis performing with Johnny “Guitar” Watson. Seeing his father alive greatly changed his perception of his dad.
On August 21, 2018 Poetic Lace released his first 4k music video, Unconditional Featuring Nova. The stunning visuals shows us that “ups and downs will come, and ups and downs will go, but God’s love will always be the same”. In the midst of its huge success, on September 5, 2018 Leezola Smith won teacher of the year at Saint Clair Evans Academy. Pushing even harder to leave an impact, on September 12, 2018Poetic Lace released the short film The Disposition, starring the students from United Christian Academy in Maccleany Florida. Not being comfortable with what he was good at, on September 21, 2018 Poetic Lace began to teach himself how to make beats. Knowing that music and playing instruments runs in his blood, he was ready to uncover hidden talents and tap into his true power. On September 25, 2018 Poetic Lace released one of the most beautiful videos of the century, The Royal Vows. This poetry video features Le’Serone and Leezola Smith’s wedding, and the joys of accepting God’s way of marriage. As Poetic Lace’s life continues to unfold, we can continue to expect to be amazed, inspired, challenged, and drawn in.
